When I got engaged, I absolutely COULD NOT stop staring at my ring. That sparkly little oval diamond was like being hypnotized. In fact, the woman at the Diamonds Direct in Raleigh (where Tyler purchased the ring) even told him not to let me drive for a while because I’d be too distracted by that bling on my hands on the steering wheel!

As soon as we picked up our wedding bands, though, I entered a whole new phase of crazy. I couldn’t wait to see those rings on both of our hands, and it was driving me insane to have to wait! Especially when the pandemic hit and we were so uncertain about when / where / what our wedding day would look like. SO I resolved that in the meantime I would at least try and sate my obsession with our rings by taking pictures of them.

I thought I would share some of these fun shots that I took while waiting to be able to wear these rings officially, and share a few tips for taking your own detail shots if you’re anywhere close to as crazy about your bands as I am.

First, start with a pretty ring box or dish to showcase those stunners, like these ring boxes pictured here from Hundred Hearts on Etsy. You don’t have to go out and spend a fortune on ring boxes (I see you, The Mrs. Box) in order to have pretty images. There are even some gorgeous velvet boxes on Amazon for under $20!

Next, place the ring boxes on a neutral background (for these, I used a marble charcuterie board!) and take it outside in a place with open shade, or put it near a window to get some good soft light. Then add in your favorite bottle of perfume and any other special items – champagne corks, wax seals, jewelry, garter, shoes, invitations… and voilà! You’re ready to capture some magic.

I’d recommend at least adding some pretty ribbon or chiffon to create some softness. For these, I used a lovely raw-edge ribbon from Ling’s Moment on Amazon that I purchased in many different shades to add to my styling kit for engagement sessions and wedding days. I also used a few vintage stamps that I ordered from the Little Postage House.

I keep my styling kit in my camera bag to showcase all the beautiful bling of my brides, and these details are honestly one of my favorite things to capture on wedding days.
